About Jackson, Pendergrass & Townsend:

The JPT Trio specializes in jazz- inflected vocal music ranging from the standards to the popular music of the 60’s, 70’s, and beyond. Their unique interpretations will open your ears anew to music you love.

DENISE JACKSON

Denise Jackson (vocals) grew up listening to the greats Gershwin, Nancy Wilson, Morgana King, Barbara Streisand, Dionne Warwick, and many others. Raised in New York City, she won her first talent show singing Raptureby Anita Baker, which she later reprised at Harlem’s famed Apollo Theatre. Jazz, R&B, pop, and the blues form the center of her musical universe. Singing great songs with great musicians is a fulfillment of a childhood dream. Her performances embody respect for the past, awareness of the present, and an arrow towards the future

MARCUS PENDERGRASS

Marcus Pendergrass (keys) is a multiinstrumentalist and composer from Farmville, Virginia. His music is rooted in the jazz, blues, and popular music he heard growing up in the southern United States. He has played with numerous local groups, including Feng Sway, Hep Kat, Code Blue, Sway Katz, the Southside Jazz Quartet, and the Brian Graham Band. In his day job as a mathematician he explores the intersections between mathematics and music

KENNETH TOWNSEND

Kenneth Townsend (guitar) is a blues, jazz, and popular music performer from Farmville, Virginia. Born in Louisiana, he was raised on the rhythms of the bayou. He has performed in rock, country, jazz, and blues bands for many years, but he has never lost his connection with the second linerhythms and music of the city of New Orleans. He has played keyboards and bass in bands, but it is on the guitar that he achieves his greatest expression. For 25 years he performed with Piedmont Blues artist, Victor Cabas. Ken favors the sounds of the smoky lounges and the Great American Songbook.
